Wrexham and Sheffield Wednesday are set to clash in a Championship fixture later this week.

The Red Dragons have had a difficult couple of weeks since kicking off their first campaign in the second tier of English football since 1982.

It began in positive fashion with Josh Windass scoring their first Championship goal to put them ahead against Southampton.

However, the Saints scored two late goals to hand Wrexham a 2-1 defeat on the opening weekend.

The Welsh side then suffered a 3-2 defeat at the hands of West Bromwich Albion last time out.

But Wrexham face a struggling Sheffield Wednesday later this week and are favourites to win.

Wrexham vs Sheffield Wednesday prediction

Sheffield Wednesday fans praised Wrexham earlier this summer when they signed their former player.

But Windass is now injured and will be absent from the clash with the Owls later this week.

Despite losing a key man, however, Phil Parkinson’s side are favourites to secure three points on Saturday, according to Opta.

Their supercomputer predicts the most likely outcome for each Championship fixture in every gameweek.

Opta made Southampton and West Brom favourites to win those matches, which they did.

But this week, Wrexham are given a 41.7% chance of earning three points against Sheffield Wednesday.

The Yorkshire club, meanwhile, have a 31.6% chance of leaving the Racecourse Ground as victors.

Wrexham ‘frustrated’ at start to Championship season

The Wrexham Insider revealed this week that the club have no plans to sack Parkinson right now.

However, it is understood that they are ‘frustrated’ by the opening of the 2025/26 season.

Parkinson has had his Wrexham future questioned this week amid his previously poor record in the Championship.

But Sheffield Wednesday are by far and away their easiest opponents so far this season, so if they are going to win a league game, Saturday will probably be their best chance for some time.
