Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds have enjoyed tremendous success with Wrexham since they took over in 2021.
After the £2million takeover from Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds in 2021, Wrexham have become one of the most well-known clubs in the world.
The success of the ‘Welcome to Wrexham’ documentary has brought a completely new fanbase to the club and attracted some major names.
Some big celebrities have become Wrexham fans after McElhenney and Reynolds’ takeover, including the likes of Paul Rudd and Will Ferrell.
The Red Dragons are now plying their trade in League One with Reynolds eyeing another promotion this season and Phil Parkinson admitting his Premier League dream.
The immense success of Wrexham following the American duo’s arrival has seemingly inspired others to try their hand at buying an EFL club.

Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds Wrexham success could change EFL
Tom Brady already owns part of Birmingham City and is battling it out with Wrexham at the top of League One in 2024/25.
Elsewhere, Wroxham chairman James Blower is looking to emulate Wrexham after purchasing the non-league club.
Now, football finance expert Adam Sommerfeld has made a huge prediction for the future of the EFL.
Speaking on Football Daily, Sommerfeld predicted that every EFL club will eventually be owned by Americans after the success of Rob and Ryan.
He said: “[You have] guys with ultra-high net worth who have seen ‘Welcome to Wrexham’, seen Ted Lasso and said ‘I want to buy a team’.
“I can’t see how it won’t be all of them [owned by Americans] because you’ve got 14 in the Premier League majority LP owned then you’ve got in the EFL at least a third [already owned by Americans].
“I’m not aware of a team really that hasn’t had a conversation with the US investor in recent months it’s normally the case that you have a couple of hedge fund guys, private equity guys they’ll go in obviously to try and get the best deal but every team is talking to US investor at the moment so I’d be more surprised if they weren’t all US-owned.”

EFL fans may fear for future of clubs thanks to Wrexham
While Rob and Ryan have proven themselves to be great owners for Wrexham, other club’s fans may fear American investment.
It is clear the Red Dragons’ owners care about the club and their fans but some other American celebrities may not share that same view.
Instead, they may simply use it as a way to boost their own profile in the world of Hollywood.
But with more and more Americans investing in football, it will be interesting to see how the landscape of the EFL looks in the next few years.
