Josh Windass has commented on his decision to leave Sheffield Wednesday and sign for Wrexham, while also discussing a potential return to Rangers.
Amid the club’s ongoing financial problems, Windass terminated his Sheffield Wednesday contract over the summer.
The 31-year-old went on to join Wrexham for free and has already scored three in six for the Red Dragons.
Windass made 182 appearances at Sheffield Wednesday and has now opened up on leaving the Owls this summer.

Josh Windass on leaving Sheffield Wednesday for Wrexham and returning to Rangers
Speaking to The Athletic, the Englishman said it was an easy decision to depart Hillsborough, while adding that he could have returned to Rangers.
He said: “It was quite easy [to leave Sheffield Wednesday].
“I nearly left [Wednesday] the previous summer but with the manager [Danny Rohl] staying, I ended up staying too.
“This time, I was ready to move on to a fresh challenge. I could have gone back (to Rangers) this summer. I had some really good times there, a great club. But I didn’t think it was right at this time.”
Windass has become a leader at Wrexham, already taking the captain’s armband on multiple occasions when James McClean and Matty James have not been on the pitch.
Alongside his leadership skills, vast experience and eye for goal, the fact that Wrexham landed the midfielder for nothing was a great bit of transfer business.

Josh Windass is a £10m player
Most teams in the Championship would no doubt love to have secured his services for free.
But it was Wrexham who managed to do so, with journalist Nathan Salt praising the deal and suggesting Windass is a £10m player.
He said: “Josh Windass, though, to get him on a free, that will be easily one of the best signings anyone makes in the Championship all season.
“You get a player that is probably worth 10 million quid on a free, a goal-scoring midfielder, the de facto 10. He is in a position that he wants to be, he wants to be off the forward and not having to be the one who’s back to goal and everything bouncing off him.”
Windass is under contract in North Wales until 2028 and has desires to reach the Premier League with Wrexham in the coming years.
