Wrexham are poised to sign Josh Windass, meaning he will join forces with Ollie Palmer upon arriving at the STōK Cae Ras.
Wrexham have been busy in the transfer market in recent days as Phil Parkinson prepares for the start of the Championship season.
We are now just over two weeks away from Wrexham opening the season at Southampton, and Parkinson’s recruitment drive has ramped up.
Liberato Cacace joined Wrexham on Friday, while George Thomason left Bolton Wanderers for a move to North Wales on Monday.
Wrexham are close to signing Josh Windass, with a medical completed and a three-year contract in the pipeline.
Wrexham lost a true legend in Joey Jones on Tuesday, though, and holding off on transfer business to pay respect to the former defender was certainly the priority.

Josh Windass once joked about Ollie Palmer
Windass will become a Wrexham player this week and will represent a major addition to Parkinson’s attacking options.
The 31-year-old is a proven Championship attacker and hit 13 goals for Sheffield Wednesday last season.
Windass has departed Wednesday, having ripped up his contract last week, and will now link up with Ollie Palmer.
Speaking on Pitch Side last year, and as clipped by Wrexham fan Jayfuz, Windass actually joked about Palmer’s belief that he could score goals if he replaced Erling Haaland in the Manchester City attack.
Windass claimed to be ‘miles better’ than Palmer and joked about the Wrexham striker being ‘delusional’ before admitting that he understood Palmer’s point.
“I saw that, I did see that clip. Give me the question, I’ll tell you what I think of Ollie Palmer’s answer,” said Windass.
“Ollie Palmer said he’d get 20 goals for City, didn’t he? It’s absolutely delusional at the highest level, no offence to Ollie Palmer. I’m miles better than Ollie Palmer,” he continued when it was suggested that he would score for City. “He doesn’t even get 15 [for Wrexham], what is he on about?
“You get more chances playing for a better team, and that’s what Ollie Palmer was saying – you’d get loads of chances, but I think you’ve still got to have the football brain and speed to get the chances. I could see what he was saying,” he added.
What Ollie Palmer actually said
This all came about because Palmer spoke on Pitch Side in 2023 and shared his belief that he could score goals regularly for Manchester City.
Palmer highlighted that this wasn’t so much a comment about his own ability as he extended his claim to any League One or League Two striker.
Palmer also felt that he wouldn’t enjoy nearly as much success at any other Premier League club, but believed City create so many chances that goals would come.
“The point is, I’m not saying it about myself, just myself, I’m putting the majority of League One and League Two players in Man City’s team,” said Palmer.
“Not Chelsea’s, not Man Utd’s, not Arsenal’s, just Man City’s team. The way that they dictate games and smash teams with 10 men, not even 11 men. The amount of chances they create and tap-ins… I think you could put in most strikers and they would get 20 goals. They create so many tap-ins for their strikers, six yards out. So many.
“Put me in Southampton’s team… probably zero. That’s just my opinion on it, and I’m not talking about myself, I’m talking about most strikers,” he added.
Palmer has been a personal favourite of mine in the Wrexham rise; a great personality and a fine target man ever since his 2022 arrival from AFC Wimbledon.
The chance of seeing Palmer and Windass in the Wrexham attack together would be interesting after these comments, but whether we actually see it is unclear.
Palmer has featured in pre-season but struggled for playing time in the second half of last season, and his future at Wrexham remains in some doubt.
For now, Palmer and Windass are set to become Wrexham teammates – and we would love to see how many goals they would score together after that Manchester City debate.
