Ryan Reynolds looked at buying an MLS side who are now thriving in their ongoing season.

It has been four and a half years since Ryan Reynolds and Rob Mac became owners of Wrexham.

In that time, the Dragons have made history by going from the National League to the Championship in three seasons.

Wrexham are now valued at £350m, which is a staggering increase on the £2m the North American duo paid back in February 2021.

It’s not just the Red Dragons whom Rob and Ryan have invested in over the last several years, however.

Mac and Reynolds bought into Club Necaxa in April 2024, and the Wrexham owners have links to La Equidad as well.

Wrexham owner Ryan Reynolds has connection to MLS team

Away from Necaxa and La Equidad, another team was eyed by Ryan earlier this year.

It was said in February that Reynolds was considering investing in Vancouver Whitecaps, with a £300m fee mooted.

The actor is a life-long fan of the MLS side, whom he grew up watching and also got to see his current team play against.

Reynolds spoke about Wrexham playing the Vancouver Whitecaps in a 2024 pre-season friendly earlier this year, saying: “Wrexham playing the Vancouver Whitecaps was one of those pinch-me moments that as long as I live, will never forget.

“BC Place is the stadium I went to as a kid, I’ve been to BC Place maybe 100 times in my life and I’ve always sat way up in the nosebleeds with my dad and here I am, I’m in BC Place with my daughter, I’m in the owners box and you know, spanking them, that felt pretty good too.”

Vancouver Whitecaps close to club history

The 2025 MLS season is in full swing, and the Vancouver Whitecaps are having a superb campaign so far.

There are a total of 34 games played in the normal MLS season, but Vancouver only need two more to make history.

At present, the most points they have ever won in a single campaign is 53, which happened back in 2015.

In 2025, though, they are already sitting on 49 points from 27 matches played.

They are next in action on September 14 versus the Philadelphia Union before a meeting with Sporting Kansas City on September 21.

Wins in said fixtures would see them surpass their previous record points total by two.
