Ollie Palmer’s latest starring display in a Wrexham shirt has now been recognised.

Wrexham face Sheffield Wednesday in a Championship fixture on Saturday afternoon.

The Red Dragons go into the tie still searching for their first league win of the season following disappointment against West Brom last time out.

Prior to losing to the Baggies, however, Wrexham beat Hull City in the Carabao Cup and will now face Preston North End in the second round next week.

The tie ended 3-3 after 90 minutes, but Phil Parkinson’s side won the penalty shootout, in no small part due to Ollie Palmer.

Ollie Palmer can win award after Wrexham heroics

In a private meeting prior to their opening game of the 2025/26 season, Wrexham told Palmer he can leave this summer.

The club icon was then left out of the Southampton fixture, but an injury to Kieffer Moore saw him named on the bench against Hull.

Palmer scored twice after coming off the bench in that game and, as a result, has been nominated for Round One’s Carabao Cup Player of the Round.

The EFL confirmed the four nominees on their website with a statement on each player.

Palmer’s read: “Fighting for his future in a Wrexham shirt, Palmer only entered the pitch after 69 minutes, yet his two powerful injury-time headers as a substitute gave Wrexham an unlikely 3-3 draw against Hull and forced a shootout in which he confidently found the bottom corner with his penalty.”

Will Ollie Palmer leave Wrexham

After his outing against Hull and the club’s defeat to West Brom, Wrexham fans want Palmer to feature in the Championship.

However, it seems unlikely the 33-year-old will be given a chance against Sheffield Wednesday.

He does seem like the best alternative to Moore in the squad, but Parkinson made it clear when he left the forward out on Saturday that he is not part of his plans.

So, if Palmer does leave, who will cover Moore in the ‘big man’ role? Ryan Hardie may have to step up on that front, but it remains to be seen.
