Phil Parkinson hints at how many more signings Wrexham could make before September 1st

Wrexham are preparing for their Championship opener at Southampton but Phil Parkinson still has one eye on the transfer market.

The game at St Mary’s Stadium will be a historic occasion for the Red Dragons as they play their first game in the second tier since a 3-2 victory over Rotherham in 1982.

That game was their last at Championship level and Parkinson is determined to build a squad that will last the distance in what is one of the world’s most competitive leagues.

Parkinson was coy on Wrexham’s pursuit of Nathan Broadhead but he has given an update on how many more signings fans can expect before the September 1st deadline.

Phil Parkinson says Wrexham are still looking at ‘several opportunities’ in the transfer market

Speaking at his pre-match press conference ahead of the trip to Southampton, Parkinson has revealed that the Red Dragons are still looking at ‘several opportunities’ in the transfer market.

Kieffer Moore became Wrexham’s eighth signing earlier this week and they have already broken their transfer record twice in Lewis O’Brien and Liberato Cacace.

Parkinson stated: “There’s a number of deals we’re looking into at the moment so I think it’s a bit unfair going into the season to comment on other teams’ players who are under contract,

“But there’s several opportunities we’re looking at and hopefully can make the right calls to continue improving what we’ve got.”

Wrexham want to sign Lewis Koumas on loan from Liverpool and Pedro Lima from Wolves has also been mentioned as a name of interest.

EFL restrictions mean Wrexham will have to focus on player sales

Parkinson has been warned over signing Koumas given that loan players still have to be registered in the 25-man squad under EFL rules.

Wrexham currently have over 30 first-team players on their books even after Modou Faal joined Port Vale on loan.

Further departures will be needed in order to trim the squad and allow for the club to add one or two more signings before the window closes.

The likes of Ollie Palmer and Jacob Mendy are close to finding new adventures, whilst it is also thought that Elliot Lee will be leaving this month too.
