Wrexham snapped up defender Dominic Hyam on transfer deadline day as Phil Parkinson raided Championship rivals Blackburn Rovers.

Wrexham completed three deadline day signings to end the summer transfer window with a flourish.

Ben Sheaf and Issa Kabore arrived at the STōK Cae Ras before Phil Parkinson landed another late addition.

Dominic Hyam joined Wrexham for around £2.7million as he moved on from Blackburn Rovers.

Hyam’s exit is a huge blow for Rovers, and the Scot may be eyeing a first appearance for Wrexham against Queens Park Rangers this weekend.

Dominic Hyam’s potential Wrexham shirt number

Hyam has not yet been given a shirt number at Wrexham, but will receive one ahead of the QPR clash.

Kabore is waiting for his Wrexham shirt number, and the same goes for fellow deadline day signing Sheaf.

Hyam’s potential shirt number actually looks fairly obvious, with the number five shirt now available at Wrexham.

Eoghan O’Connell has been released by Wrexham, leaving the number five shirt free in the process.

Hyam wore number five throughout his time with Blackburn and could slot straight into that shirt at Wrexham.

Hyam previously wore number 15 during his time at Coventry City, but George Dobson holds that shirt at the STōK Cae Ras.

Numbers 11, 12, 17, 18, 22, 23, 27, 30, 31 and 32 are also available, but Hyam would surely love to take number five and follow on from his Blackburn days.

Dominic Hyam offers exceptional depth to Wrexham’s squad

Blackburn fans are so unhappy with Hyam’s exit because he is, quite simply, a very good Championship defender.

The 29-year-old has bags of Championship experience and offers fantastic competition in Wrexham’s back line.

Hyam can slot in on the right side or in the middle of Wrexham’s back three and compete with Max Cleworth and Conor Coady.

Dan Scarr and Lewis Brunt are also at Parkinson’s disposal, but neither of them are as proven as Hyam at this level.

£2.7million looks to be a great price for a player who can make a big impact in multiple positions this season, and that could all start with a debut against QPR this weekend.
