EFL pundit Lee Hendrie has been discussing the prospect of Wrexham sacking Phil Parkinson.

Wrexham go into their meeting with Norwich City on Saturday sitting 21st in the Championship table.

Ahead of that fixture, there has been talk about Phil Parkinson leaving the club.

In the long term, it remains to be seen what will happen, but right now, his job doesn’t appear to be under threat.

Shaun Harvey commented on Phil Parkinson’s future this week, saying that he has the club’s support.

But given their start to the 2025/26 Championship season, it remains a talking point among pundits and fans.

Why Wrexham might move on from Phil Parkinson

As has already been reported, Ryan Reynolds and Rob Mac want Wrexham to reach the Premier League.

They are hoping to achieve this goal by the end of the 2026/27 Championship season.

Now, Lee Hendrie has been discussing Parkinson’s future and the Dragons’ plans to win promotion to the top flight.

While Hendrie is of the opinion that the manager should not be sacked yet, he did concede Wrexham may need to move on from him if they are to make it to the Premier League.

He told Football League World: “Should he be sacked, shouldn’t he be sacked?

“I don’t think so. I think how far he’s taken the football club, he should be given an opportunity.

“It’s obviously a results-based game. That is the problem. It’s a football club, like Birmingham City with Chris Davies. You invest, bring big players into the club, got to be able to manage and take the club forward, and it hasn’t quite hit off for Wrexham at the moment and that’s where the unfortunate thing is.

“You’ve got big owners that want to take the club to the next level. I don’t like to see sackings when managers have done very well. Phil’s done a great job there, but it might be that they have to go to that next level to try and get themselves into the Premier League.

“He’s definitely going to be under pressure, there’s no doubt, as results aren’t going their way.”

Will Wrexham win a game before the international break

There are four league games left for Wrexham to play out before the October international break.

Wrexham are not expected to beat Norwich when they travel to Carrow Road this weekend.

Of the remaining matches, Derby County, on paper, represents the best chance of a win, but as the QPR defeat showed last weekend, there are no easy games in the Championship.

An away trip to the recently relegated Leicester City will also be difficult. Their upcoming run of games is rounded out with a meeting against Birmingham City, whom Wrexham failed to beat in two attempts last season when the pair were in League One.
