Wrexham and Stockport County have become rivals during the last few years and will once again meet on Saturday.
Wrexham are set to face Stockport County in a 3pm kick-off on March 22nd, aware victory will put them back into the automatic promotion places.
However, the Hatters could very easily spoil the party in Wales, as they have done in years gone by.
Stockport’s manager made a chant about Wrexham back in 2022 after his team pipped the Red Dragons to the National League title.
The North American-owned club had to wait another season before escaping the fifth tier before they once again clashed with Dave Challinor’s men in League Two last term.
Wrexham beat Stockport 2-1 on the final day of 2023/24 but the latter still went up as champions.
Stockport County manager’s prediction for Wrexham coming true
Phil Parkinson’s prediction for Max Cleworth coming out of that match could not have been more true.
Meanwhile, Stockport’s manager made a Wrexham prediction after said meeting and he, like Parkinson, was correct in his assessment.
Speaking shortly after the close of the 2023/24 League Two campaign in April 2024, Challinor suggested that Wrexham will ‘look to really go again’ and win a third-straight promotion.
He stated: “The two clubs are very different in terms of where we are at. We went through a buying phase, where we went to get the players in to get us to this point.
“We now need to go a little bit differently and look to build. Whereas from Wrexham’s perspective, that probably won’t be the case. They will look to really go again.”
Wrexham can make EFL history
With nine games of the season left to play, the Welsh outfit are only outside of the automatic spots via goal difference.
Wrexham have an easier fixture list than Wycombe coming up, with the Chair Boys facing a lot of play-off chasers in the final month of 2024/25.
Even if they fail to go up alongside Birmingham, Parkinson’s men have to be one of the favourites to win the play-offs.
Should they indeed manage that feat, they will be the first team in EFL history to win three promotions in a row when starting from the National League or higher.
Chester F.C managed it from 2010-2013 but they only made it as high as the Vanarama National League North.
