Wrexham fans all in agreement about Sam Dalby amid Dundee United form – their stance is baffling

Wrexham sent Sam Dalby out on loan to Dundee United during the 2024 summer transfer window.

The Red Dragons broke their transfer record by signing Modou Faal from West Bromwich Albion late in August.

That deal opened the door for fellow striker Sam Dalby to leave Wrexham for Dundee United on loan.

Before moving up to Scotland, the centre-forward had scored 12 and assisted 13 in 88 matches during his time in Wales.

Not the best record by any means but one Dalby has massively improved upon in the current campaign.

Dalby won the SPL Player of the Month for November after cementing himself as a regular starter following a few substitute appearances earlier in the campaign.

Dundee United were then in action against Kilmarnock this past Saturday and came away with a 1-1 draw.

Dalby has now surpassed his Wrexham goal-tally from last season after scoring his sixth league goal of 2024/25 in that stalemate.

Wrexham fans in agreement about Sam Dalby return

As well as beating his own tally from last term, Dalby’s six league goals for Dundee United mean he has now scored more goals than any Wrexham player this season.

Jack Marriott remains the club’s top scorer in the league, with the likes of Paul Mullin (1) and Ollie Palmer (3) struggling on the goal front.

Despite this, Wrexham fans have been discussing a potential Dalby return in January and are firmly against it.

One fan wrote: “I think we’ve seen enough to judge him. Flashes of quality, too many meh performances.”

A second added: “I’d say leave him there as he’s doing well. And just spend the Disney dollars on a £3m striker.”

“Honestly we’ve seen enough. If someone puts in an offer, can see us 100% taking it. Not worked out here, unfortunately!” another fan claimed.

A fourth wrote: “Think he doesn’t work with how we play and you could see he wasn’t happy being with us, I think since going to Dundee he has revived his confidence and career so I would look to sell him and make a substantial amount of money off that sale, maybe even a sell on clause.”

With a fifth adding: “No chance for me. Couldn’t cut it in league two never mind one.”

A sixth Red Dragons fan said: “No thanks…just goes to show how bad Scottish football is if Dalby is scoring,” with a seventh echoing that sentiment: “No, I think he’s found his level up in Scotland.”

Wrexham set to miss out on Sam Dalby transfer funds

Dundee United boss Jim Goodwin wants to sign Dalby permanently but with the forward on loan until the end of the season, that will be a conversation for the summer.

However, should Dalby join the Scottish outfit full-time ahead of 2025/26, Wrexham will not see any cash for the player.

This comes with the 25-year-old now in the final year of his contract at the Racecourse, meaning he will be a free agent next year.

Wrexham could attempt to cash in on him in January, but with Dundee United seemingly the only suitor right now, a permanent sale this winter doesn’t seem likely as they can just wait until the summer and get him for nothing.
