Wrexham will face off with a summer transfer target in a Championship fixture this week.

The Red Dragons had a busy 2025 summer window that saw 13 new players signed.

Wrexham spent £33m to improve their squad, which included the addition of three new midfielders.

Lewis O’Brien and George Thomason were brought in before Ben Sheaf’s £6.5m arrival from Coventry City on deadline day.

Before turning their attention towards Sheaf, however, Wrexham were in the market for a player who has now joined Leicester City.

Wrexham wanted to sign Leicester City player

Wrexham face Leicester in a Championship clash on the evening of September 30.

The Welsh side are expected to face off against a player they were keen to sign this summer.

Former Birmingham City star Jordan James emerged as a Wrexham target in August.

Phil Parkinson commented on signing James, labelling him a ‘good player’.

He said: “He’s a player we’ve looked at, also I know him from his time at Birmingham as well and followed his progress in the Welsh team and Rennes,” said Parkinson.

“Obviously (he’s) a good player, but he’s just one of a lot of players we’ve looked at over the last month or so.”

There were reports that Wrexham were in talks over a £4.3m deal for the former Blue.

However, late on September 1, Leicester confirmed the signing of James after interest from the Dragons.

How Jordan James is faring at Leicester City

As he joined on deadline day, James missed the opening of the 2025/26 Championship campaign.

The Welsh international made his debut for the Foxes off the bench on September 13 in a 2-2 draw with Oxford United.

He started his first game for Leicester a week later, playing 69 minutes of a 0-0 draw with Coventry City.

Most recently, James was afforded 45 minutes as an attacking midfielder in a 1-1 stalemate against West Brom.
