Wrexham produced a brilliant late show on Tuesday night, beating Barnsley thanks to Ollie Rathbone’s injury-time winner.

Wrexham welcomed Barnsley to the STōK Cae Ras on Tuesday night for the final leg of a home triple-header.

Exeter City and Lincoln City had already been beaten and Wrexham were going for a hat-trick of victories.

Wrexham left it late to find the winner though as Ollie Rathbone popped up with an injury-time winner to spark wild celebrations.

Rob McElhenney and Danny Devito loved Wrexham’s winner too as they celebrated over in Los Angeles.

This was a big win for Wrexham, cutting the gap to leaders Wycombe Wanderers to just two points in the process.

Ollie Rathbone makes Manchester United comparison

Rathbone was the hero as he continued his recent impact in the Wrexham midfield.

After a slow start to life at Wrexham, Rathbone has made himself almost undroppable with his displays in the engine room.

Parkinson has praised Rathbone, suggesting that he is getting better by the week.

Wrexham fans will no doubt feel the same way and Rathbone has praised his teammates for the winning mentality within the group.

Speaking on Wrexham’s official YouTube channel, Rathbone reacted to Tuesday’s late win by making a comparison towards Sir Alex Ferguson’s Manchester United.

Rathbone told Wrexham Match Day Live that he thinks Wrexham have a winning mentality that actually plays on the minds of the opposition.

Rathbone drew a comparison towards Sir Alex Ferguson’s Manchester United, believing that teams arrive at Wrexham and begin to fear late goals going in – just as teams did at Old Trafford.

“I think it’s all about mentality and it feeds into us as the home team, but it also feeds into the away team as the game goes on,” said Rathbone.

“Manchester United were famous for it for years under Sir Alex Ferguson, it’s just something that creeps into the mind of the opposition and I think that’s the case here,” he added.

No team will want to visit Wrexham

Paul Mullin has highlighted Wrexham’s fighting spirit and noted that the game isn’t over until it’s truly over.

Wrexham just didn’t settle for a 0-0 draw and found that winning goal, leaving Barnsley with little time to find a leveller.

Rathbone is a former United man himself so perhaps this comparison shouldn’t be a surprise, but we can’t imagine many League One teams fancy a trip to the STōK Cae Ras any time soon.

Wrexham have now racked up 200 homes points under Parkinson and have dropped just two points in 10 home League One games this season.

Rathbone and Mullin certainly sense a mentality not just within the Wrexham camp, but seemingly how it effects the opposition – and that could be vital if Wrexham are to win another promotion this season.
