Wrexham’s growth on and off the pitch is set to continue with the club on the brink of promotion to the Chmpionship.

Wrexham’s ultimate goal is to stabilise the club within the top flight of English football and with five games to go Phil Parkinson’s side have promotion to the second-tier in their own hands.

Eoghan O’Connell has praised Wrexham’s mentality as they look to secure a history-making third successive promotion following their rise from the National League.

Parkinson praised his substitutes in the win over Burton as Ryan Barnett and Jack Marriott had a major impact on the game coming from the bench.

Wrexham have been without one star player on the bench in recent months and it is threatening to over shadow what would be a monumental achievement for the Red Dragons should they gain promotion.

Wrexham star Paul Mullin compared to Wayne Rooney

Paul Mullin has been absent from the last nine League One matchday squads and the issue has divided the club’s fanbase with the striker having scored over 100 goals since his arrival in 2021.

On the pitch, Parkinson’s side have been flying and have played their way into pole position in the promotion race but the absence of Mullin continues to be a major discussion point.

Mullin has denied a rift with Parkinson and as per BBC Sport, his absence is being felt by fans as they do not want him time at the club to end on a sour note.

Fearless in Devotion Podcast co-host Tim Edwards stated: “He’s a modern-day club legend, for obvious reasons, and a figurehead and talisman of what we have done on the pitch,

“But it’s not just the goals; it’s the way he plays which makes it feel as though we are playing for the club through him. That working-class, street footballer who plays for the love of the game and everything else is a bonus, a bit like Wayne Rooney.

“He gets the club and we get him – which only makes the current situation feel a little weird.”

Rob McElhenney’s Paul Mullin prediction proving wrong

Rob McElhenney’s prediction on Mullin back in March 2024 is currently being disproved as the Red Dragons march on without their talisman.

McElhenney stated: “He’s inspired millions of people all over the world with what he does. The more games this man plays for this club, the bigger this club’s going to continue to get.”

Mullin’s decline this season has been there for all to see with his attacking output and Wrexham have found a way to play without him in the side.

Football is forever evolving and whilst Mullin may no longer be the present or even the future of the club, Wrexham will need to ensure that his past is remember appropriately if these are the final few months at the club for him.
