Ollie Palmer is set to leave Wrexham, having undergone a medical with League Two side Swindon Town.
Ollie Palmer is finally set to leave Wrexham after a difficult 2025 at the Racecourse. The 33-year-old striker has fallen well out of favour under manager Phil Parkinson, who recently said that Palmer looked set to leave the club.
Then, on Thursday, it was announced that Palmer was set to undergo a medical with Swindon Town in League Two.
Here are the winners and losers as Palmer nears his exit from the club…

The winners as Ollie Palmer nears Wrexham exit
Ollie Palmer
Palmer himself seems to be the big winner in all of this. Whilst Palmer hinted he would have liked to stay at Wrexham going into this season, Parkinson clearly made his mind up even well before the summer.
It may be an emotional move for the striker, having spent several good years with the club, joining Swindon Town will give him a chance to play regularly and to compete for another promotion, albeit down in League Two.
Jay Rodriguez
Palmer isn’t the only player who looks set to leave ahead of the deadline day, and already the departures have begun with Jack Marriott leaving Wrexham to join Reading in League One. And Marriott and now Palmer leaving is surely good news for Jay Rodriguez.
Many Wrexham fans have had mixed opinions about Rodriguez since he joined the club back in the January transfer window, but Parkinson clearly favours him over the likes of Palmer and also Paul Mullin, and with Marriott gone and Palmer leaving, it keeps Rodriguez in contention to feature this season.
Paul Mullin
Mullin may also benefit from Palmer leaving the club. Mullin has already joined Wigan Athletic on loan, but with Marriott gone, Palmer leaving and the likes of Rodriguez potentially falling well out of favour this season, Mullin may well have a chance to come back to Wrexham at the end of this season and fight for his place in the side once again.
Providing Wrexham aren’t promoted and Mullin has a good season in League One, Parkinson could view the Wigan loan man as a potential option in the next pre-season.

The losers as Ollie Palmer nears Wrexham exit
Phil Parkinson
Parkinson has had to make some difficult decisions this summer. As Wrexham’s rise up the football league continues, the club’s quality of players only increases, as we’ve seen with Wrexham spending £30m on new players this summer, including Nathan Broadhead, Callum Doyle and several more.
But Parkinson may often come across as the villain in these kinds of situations. Whilst he may not have handled the Palmer and Mullins situation brilliantly from the outside looking in, it was always inevitable that Palmer would have to leave this summer. Parkinson can only hope that the likes of Palmer don’t hold ill feelings against him and that he doesn’t pick up too many injuries and come to regret selling Palmer and loaning out Mullin.
Elliot Lee
With Palmer now set to leave, it proves that no one is safe at Wrexham no matter how long they’ve been at the club or how successful they’ve been in the past. Another player in the same boat is Elliot Lee.
Recently there were reports that Lee could be sold by Wrexham ahead of the deadline day with the midfielder having also fallen out of favour this season, having yet to feature in the league. Another player who could be up for grabs is Tom O’Connor who is considering leaving Wrexham this summer.
