Wrexham are still trying to strengthen their side going into the final week of the transfer window.

At present, the Dragons have brought 10 new players to the club in the last few months.

Callum Doyle is the latest Wrexham signing, joining from Manchester City in a deal that could end up being worth £7.5m.

However, as Phil Parkinson and Co. remain winless in the Championship, more reinforcements are still being eyed in the final week of the window.

Over the weekend, it was reported that Wrexham want to sign Will Smallbone from Southampton, with a £7.5m fee mooted.

Phil Parkinson

As already mentioned, Wrexham are struggling in the Championship and are still yet to win a game.

After their latest clash with Sheffield Wednesday, Parkinson said Wrexham could make more signings.

Lewis O’Brien has excelled since his move from Nottingham Forest, and Smallbone arrives with a similar profile.

He has Premier League experience and is exactly the type of player Parkinson will need if he is to keep the Dragons up this season.

Southampton

Wrexham have not been shy about spending money this summer, and if the aforementioned £7.5m fee is correct, it is a great deal for the Saints.

The 25-year-old is yet to play a game this season and is due to leave St Mary’s for free in 2026 when his contract expires.

Transfermarkt value the player at €6m, suggesting Wrexham may be overpaying for the midfielder.

Losers from Will Smallbone transfer to Wrexham

Elliot Lee

The 2025/26 season has seen Elliot Lee fall down the pecking order after a key role last term.

Lee has been linked with a Wrexham exit, and the arrival of Smallbone will surely accelerate that.

The midfielder has heavy competition in the frontline, with Nathan Broadhead, Josh Windass and Sam Smith ahead of him in the deeper role.

Further back, Wrexham have signed two new midfielders already.

Andy Cannon

Like Lee, it is hard to see Andy Cannon getting much playing time in the next 12 months.

Cannon has been injured for some time and is now stepping up his return to action.

But in his absence, a number of new players have arrived to take his place in the squad, and Smallbone would be another.

George Evans

Again, it already seemed likely that George Evans would be leaving Wrexham in the current transfer window.

Injury and competition for places last term limited the midfielder’s minutes a great deal.

Evans is yet to line up in the Championship, and it would not be surprising to see him sold before the September 1 deadline.
