Wrexham’s recruitment in the last few years has been nothing short of superb.
After Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds took over, their first marquee signing saw them prise League Two’s top goalscorer, Paul Mullin, away from a recently-promoted Cambridge United.
Reynolds and McElhenney were sent a Mullin warning at the time, owing to the large sum it would likely take to get him to drop down to the National League from League One.
But they still went ahead with signing the 30-year-old, who has become an iconic figure at the Racecourse Ground.
In more recent years, Wrexham have broken their transfer record on a number of occasions, including three times during the 2024/25 season.

Who is Wrexham’s signing of the 2024/25 season
Including both the summer and winter transfer windows, and free agents signed mid-season, Wrexham brought 15 new players to the club this term.
| Player | Signed from |
| Sam Smith | Reading |
| Modou Faal | West Brom |
| Ryan Longman | Hull City |
| Ollie Rathbone | Rotherham |
| Sebastian Revan | Aston Villa |
| Dan Scarr | Plymouth |
| Arthur Okonkwo | Arsenal |
| George Dobson | Charlton |
| Callum Burton | Plymouth |
| Jay Rodriguez | Burnley |
| Lewis Brunt | Leicester City |
| Matty James | Without club |
| Jon Dadi Bodvarsson | Without club |
| Brad Foster | Without club |
| Josh Adam | Without club |
The majority of those names have proven themselves to be key figures in the club’s latest promotion.
Reynolds praised Smith recently after his stunning goal in the 3-0 win over Charlton Athletic.
Though he didn’t feature much throughout the campaign, Dan Scarr shone for Wrexham in the closing weeks of 2024/25.
Ryan Longman has impressed fans since his January arrival from Hull City, scoring his first goal for the club last week.
But it seems obvious that the Red Dragons’ best signing across the last year has been midfielder Ollie Rathbone.

Ollie Rathbone will be key to Wrexham promotion
Wrexham fans think Rathbone was a bargain, and it’s very hard to argue.
Rathbone joined Wrexham for just under £500,000, making him, at least for a couple of weeks before Modou Faal arrived, their record transfer.
He has since enjoyed a prolific campaign, scoring eight goals and assisting two in League One.
Phil Parkinson spoke about Rathbone recently, explaining that he ‘typifies everything you want in a player’ when looking at new signings.
The midfielder is incredibly hard-working and effective at both ends of the pitch.
Reynolds thinks Wrexham can make the Premier League in 10 years, while McElhenney hinted they could push for promotion again in 2025/26.
It would be an incredible ask for the club to make it four in a row, but Rathbone is sure to be one of the crucial players in the forthcoming campaign as they look to make even more history.
