Wrexham transfer plan for £20,000-a-week star could now be up in smoke as major change expected

Wrexham are struggling to score goals in the 2024/25 season, with their strikers in particular struggling.

Wrexham are well off the pace of League One promotion rivals Wycombe Wanderers and Birmingham City when it comes to goals scored this season.

This is largely due to their centre-forwards underperforming on the goal front in the first six months of 2024/25.

Steven Fletcher set a Wrexham record following his strike in the 1-0 win over Peterborough United on Saturday.

However, Paul Mullin’s struggles in 2024/25 are clear to see in the data, while Ollie Palmer’s also misfiring.

In turn, Wrexham want to sign a striker in the 2025 winter window but news emerging on Wednesday could massively impact their pursuit of one target.

Rob Edwards Luton Town departure could stop Wrexham signing Cauley Woodrow

Reports emerged last week that Wrexham want to sign Cauley Woodrow from Championship outfit, Luton Town.

The January transfer window can be tricky to operate in, with clubs not often keen to part with important players midway through a campaign.

However, Woodrow has not started a Championship outing this term and has not played more than 30 minutes in one match.

In turn, it seemed obvious that The Hatters would be willing to sanction a sale this month.

Now though, a report from Football League World claims manager Rob Edwards is set to depart Luton by mutual consent.

As a result, it seems unlikely that any sales will be sanctioned by the club until a new manager is brought in and had time to assess his squad before making any decisions.

Wrexham have other striker targets

While a deal for Woodrow, who earns £20,000-a-week at Luton according to Capology, may now be unlikely for the time being, there are other options being looked at.

Harry Cornick is on Wrexham’s radar amid a lack of playing time in 2024/25 with Bristol City.

Meanwhile, the Red Dragons have eyed Joe Gelhardt of Leeds United as well but could miss out on him.

Hull City are leading the race for Gelhardt according to a report this this week.
