Ryan Reynolds and Ollie Palmer formed a touching connection during the latter’s time on Wrexham’s books.
After signing Paul Mullin in the summer of 2021, Phil Parkinson wanted another centre-forward in the January window.
Ryan Reynolds and Rob Mac obliged, paying out what was at the time, a club record £300,000 for Ollie Palmer.
Alongside Mullin, Palmer helped Wrexham end a 15-year spell in the National League and reach League One.
However, the striker’s stint in North Wales came to an abrupt end over the summer, and Reynolds’ comments on the 33-year-old at the time are proving to be spot-on.

Ryan Reynolds’ message to Ollie Palmer after Wrexham exit
Wrexham terminated Palmer’s contract in late August, which still had another year to run following an extension in October 2024.
The Englishman moved back down south, joining League Two outfit Swindon Town on a free transfer.
Following his departure, Reynolds sent a message to Palmer on social media and made a big claim when doing so.
He suggested Swindon will now get the same feeling both he and Rob got every time Palmer was on the pitch, and that the former Wrexham man would help in their quest for promotion.
Reynolds wrote: “Gut punch… Ollie is a big reason we’re in this league today. Not to mention the boundless charisma and charm… he harnessed a lifetime of talent, heart and work ethic to push Wrexham AFC and the town forward.
“Spending time with Ollie’s incredible family: his wife, Caitlin, amazing kids and his dad, Andy, are forever-memories. Ollie is my friend now and always.
“The silver lining is Swindon Town is an excellent club and they get to experience that same feeling Rob Mac and I felt as Ollie steps onto the pitch at The County Ground to push Swindon FC forward and up the pyramid. Thank you, Ollie.”

Everyone at Swindon Town loves Ollie Palmer
It’s fair to say that Reynolds’ comments about the former Red Dragons ace have already been proven right.
After scoring for the second game in a row this past weekend, Palmer has five goals for Swindon already – more than he managed across the entirety of 2024/25 with Wrexham.
During his brief spell with the League Two side, the striker has already earned high praise from Ian Holloway, who labelled him totally incredible.
Elsewhere, Swindon fans are falling in love with Palmer following his excellent start to life at their club.
Perhaps most importantly, however, Holloway’s men sit second in the fourth tier after 11 games and are currently on course to win automatic promotion.
