Wrexham appear to be keen on signing a new defender on deadline day, despite the recent arrival of Callum Doyle.

Wrexham completed a deal to sign Callum Doyle from Man City last month, with Phil Parkinson’s side paying £8million to sign the youngster.

Since, Parkinson has hailed Doyle’s performances for Wrexham. He’s slotted straight into the XI at the expense of Lewis Brunt and now Parkinson has some good depth at the back.

Despite that, Wrexham have been trying to sign Zak Vyner from Bristol City. The Dragons had three bids rejected before it was revealed that Bristol City won’t be selling Vyner on deadline day.

Ahead of the transfer window closing at 7pm on Monday, Wrexham have now turned their attentions elsewhere.

Wrexham target Dom Hyam on deadline day after missing out on Zak Vyner

It looks as though Vyner is staying at Bristol City, despite Wrexham coming in with a highest offer of £2.5million on deadline day. And now Parkinson’s side have turned their attentions to Blackburn Rovers centre-back Dom Hyam.

Journalist Pete O’Rourke has revealed on X that ‘Wrexham are trying to beat the deadline to sign’ Hyam from Championship rivals Blackburn.

The 29-year-old defender plays as a centre-back and has previously represented the likes of Reading and Coventry City among others, joining Blackburn Rovers in 2022 and having amassed an impressive 210 Championship appearances in his career so far.

Dom Hyam knows Wrexham new boy Ben Sheaf very well

The Dragons look set to announce a couple of signings on deadline day with reports that Wrexham are poised to sign Issa Kabore on loan from Man City.

And after reports that Ben Sheaf was set to arrive at the Racecourse, Wrexham confirmed the signing of Sheaf at 3pm on Monday, making him their 11th signing of the summer.

Joining from Coventry City, Sheaf and Hyam spent time playing together with the Sky Blues under Mark Robins.

During their time at Coventry, Hyam and Sheaf played 67 games together, clocking up 4,850 minutes on the pitch with each other and averaging 1.22 points-per-game.

Sheaf and Hyam would no doubt slot straight into the Wrexham XI and their existing chemistry will only prove useful for Parkinson and the rest of the team.
