Wrexham fans may be hoping for some transfer movement over the next week with Phil Parkinson now set for a break.

The busy festive period is over and Wrexham players have certainly earned a rest.

Wrexham grabbed three home win over the festive period, beating Blackpool, Wigan Athletic and Peterborough United.

The late draw at Bristol Rovers and defeat at Barnsley were the low points with Wrexham’s away form still a concern.

Wrexham next game isn’t for a week now with Phil Parkinson set to take his side to Shrewsbury Town next Thursday.

Tuesday’s trip to Port Vale was postponed whilst Wrexham’s trip to Reading this weekend is off due to the Royals’ FA Cup commitments.

Phil Parkinson’s focus may be on Wrexham transfer call

With no game immediately over the horizon, Wrexham fans will hope for some transfer updates.

The transfer window is open and key additions could help Wrexham push for promotion to the Championship.

Parkinson tends to leave his January business late but his biggest decision right now may not even be an incoming deal.

Reports last week suggested that Parkinson wanted to get the Port Vale game out of the way before making decision on Sam Dalby.

Well, that game was scrapped on Tuesday and Dalby’s future may have been at the forefront of Parkinson’s mind over the last 48 hours.

Striker Dalby was loaned to Dundee United on deadline day and has been on fire ever since making his move to Scotland.

Dalby has been praised by Scottish pundits having scored 10 goals in 20 games for Dundee United.

Wrexham can recall Dalby this month though and Parkinson was clearly eyeing up this break for a potential decision.

Much may depend on Wrexham’s own pursuit of new signings this month but Tuesday’s postponement means some potential distractions taken away; thinking about injuries and fitness after the game and who Wrexham could be playing next in the EFL Trophy.

Dalby’s future must be settled soon and Parkinson is surely weighing up his decision very carefully this week.

Dundee United boss on Dalby

Dundee United boss Jim Goodwin wants to sign Dalby permanently but has been left sweating over Wrexham recalling him.

Goodwin has now spoken to BBC Sport about Dalby’s situation, admitting that ‘constant dialogue’ is being held with Wrexham.

Goodwin praised Dalby as ‘terrific’ and his current belief is that Dalby will be staying at Tannadice rather than returning to Scotland.

That situation could change as January progresses but Goodwin will take Wrexham’s word and is confident that Dalby is staying.

“There’s constant dialogue there between ourselves and Wrexham,” said Goodwin.

“Sam has been terrific, we believe he is going to stay here for the remainder of the season. There’s still a lot of time left in the window but we have to take Wrexham at their word that Sam is going to stay here and continue his development,” he added.

Parkinson will still weigh up the situation and may well look towards Dalby if he can’t bring in a new striker this month.

Right now though, Dalby seems likely to stay at Dundee United – and with his contract ending this summer, his Wrexham career may already be over.
