Premier League club’s stance on £8.5m Brazilian talent gives Wrexham hope of striking a deal

Wrexham have now completed eight signings this summer, but Phil Parkinson continues to chase further additions.

Wrexham were backed to spend heavily this summer as Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds prepare for life in the Championship.

The big deals took a while to materialise, with Wrexham spending just £700,000 on new additions before the tour of Australia and New Zealand.

Wrexham have now signed six players in the space of just under three weeks, starting with a flurry of four signings: Liberato Cacace, George Thomason, Josh Windass and Lewis O’Brien all arrived in an impressive spending burst.

Conor Coady joined Wrexham on Friday, and Kieffer Moore’s £2million move from Sheffield United brought up summer signing number eight.

Wrexham are now set to face Southampton to kick off the Championship season, with Parkinson still looking for potential additions.

Wolves stance on Wrexham target Pedro Lima

Reports last week suggested that Wrexham are keen on signing Pedro Lima on loan from Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Parkinson is open to more loan deals this summer, with Wrexham only striking two loan signings through the Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds era.

No loan moves have materialised this summer, but Lima could be an option for Wrexham at right-wing back.

The Express and Star now claim that Wolves specifically want to send Lima out on loan to an EFL club – and again state that Wrexham are keen.

The idea is for Lima to go and play regularly and learn more about the style of play in English football.

Lima joined Wolves from Sport Recife in 2024, with the Premier League side paying around £8.5million, according to the Daily Mail.

The 19-year-old Brazilian only made three Premier League appearances for a total of 70 minutes, so he needs senior action this season.

Wolves wanting to send Lima to the EFL certainly helps Wrexham’s cause, and the teenager could be a player to keep a close eye on as the final weeks of the window arrive.

Another right wing-back rumour raises questions

Lima certainly seems to be an exciting talent, but links to another right wing-back are a little surprising.

Wrexham signed Ryan Longman in January, and he impressed after taking Ryan Barnett’s spot towards the end of the League One campaign.

Longman has Championship experience under his belt and would surely expect to start the season as Wrexham’s first-choice right wing-back.

Barnett is still in the mix as well, and it’s easy to forget just how good he was in the first half of last season.

Barnett and Longman battling it out made sense, but Wrexham were keen on signing Callum Brittain from Blackburn Rovers earlier in the summer.

That would suggest that Parkinson is at least considering his options at right wing-back, though that would likely leave one odd man out.

Moving on from Barnett would be a real shame, especially after handing him a new contract last season, but Parkinson may move the versatile Longman elsewhere if he thinks he needs an upgrade at right wing-back before the summer transfer deadline.
