Second Wrexham transfer target could snub Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney to make La Liga move

Wrexham have climbed the ranks under Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds, seeing them competing with some much bigger names to land players.

Shaun Harvey has said Wrexham have signed most players they want, with John McAtee’s move to Bolton Wanderers one of the only notable deals the club didn’t get over the line.

However, the calibre of players they are now looking at has increased, and with it, the competition.

Phil Parkinson has hinted that Wrexham are looking at Premier League players for the 2025 summer transfer window.

That’s not surprising, given the club have generally targeted stars in higher divisions since Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney took over.

But, perhaps for the first time since the North Americans arrived, they are beginning to face competition from abroad.

La Liga side now eyeing move for Wrexham-linked Jamie Vardy

After announcing he would be leaving Leicester City at the end of his contract, Jamie Vardy was linked to Wrexham almost instantly.

Humphrey Ker has since played down a move for Vardy, Patrick Bamford, and Fulham midfielder Tom Cairney.

And a deal for the Leicester icon looks unlikely to happen now anyway, with a side in Spain eyeing the former England international.

According to a report from the Sun, La Liga outfit Valencia have made the striker their top transfer target.

They are now managed by ex-West Brom boss Carlos Corberan, who is thought to be keen on Vardy’s experience.

Another Wrexham target has interest in Spain

As well as Vardy, another player the Dragons have eyed also has suitors in Europe.

It emerged recently that Lewis O’Brien was of interest to Wrexham, though our sources suggested at the time that no contact had been made with the player’s camp.

The Nottingham Forest midfielder had just spent time on loan in the Championship with Swansea City amid his struggles for game time at Forest.

This week, meanwhile, it has been claimed that Valencia are interested in O’Brien.

On a more positive note for the Welsh side, Rangers have confirmed that Wrexham target Tom Lawrence will be released this summer.
