Tom Brady gets one over on Ryan Reynolds and Rob Mac as ‘fantastic’ player to snub Wrexham for Birmingham

Wrexham are set to miss out on one target to Tom Brady’s Birmingham City as the Red Dragons are forced to look elsewhere.

This summer has seen Wrexham significantly bolster their squad as they look to compete in the Championship.

Wrexham achieved promotion last season from League One, but Red Dragons boss Phil Parkinson was wary that the current squad would struggle with the levels of the Championship, which has since seen Ryan Reynolds and Rob Mac supply him with a sizeable budget to bring in new players.

The Red Dragons have now made 10 signings, with the most recent arrival at Wrexham being Callum Doyle from Man City.

Wrexham were keen on continuing their pursuit of one Liverpool star with Championship experience, but they have been pipped to the finish line by Tom Brady’s Birmingham City.

Wrexham miss out on Liverpool ace Lewis Koumas to Tom Brady’s Birmingham City

It was previously revealed that Wrexham were keen on signing Lewis Koumas from Liverpool on loan. Such a deal looked ambitious from the Red Dragons after Koumas was regarded as ‘fantastic’ by former Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp.

However, Wrexham have been beaten to the signing by Birmingham City, as revealed by Fabrizio Romano on X.

The 19-year-old is set to sign for Birmingham City on a season-long loan from Liverpool, meaning that Phil Parkinson will have to look elsewhere for a new attacker.

Wrexham and Birmingham City have competed over several players in the summer transfer window, with the Blues also previously winning the race for Tommy Doyle over the Red Dragons this summer.

One reason why Lewis Koumas may have turned down Wrexham

Liverpool will have been keen for Lewis Koumas to not only get the opportunity of regular football at Championship level, but they would have also demanded that he was played in his most comfortable position.

Koumas is often used either on the left or right flank, and judging by Phil Parkinson’s Wrexham tactics, this may not have been possible for the Chester-born forward.

Parkinson will have been aware that Koumas has previous experience at striker, which is where he may have provided more competition, but it is likely in Liverpool’s best interests to continuing his training as a winger, which is an opportunity he will get at Birmingham City.

Wrexham boss Parkinson will be gutted to miss out on the talents of Koumas, and the Red Dragons will no doubt continue in their pursuit for more forwards this summer.
