Wrexham have added two new defensive signings this summer, but one Welsh international won’t be moving to the STōK Cae Ras.

Wrexham have made 10 signings this summer, with Phil Parkinson splashing the cash to bring his squad up to Championship level.

Parkinson has added two new defenders to his ranks and will hope to tighten up at the back after conceding seven goals in the first three Championship games.

Wrexham snapped up Conor Coady, landing the veteran defender in a £2million move from Leicester City.

A familiar face has joined the experienced centre-back, as Coady’s former Leicester teammate Callum Doyle joined Wrexham last week.

Wrexham have agreed to pay up to £7.5million for Doyle, and we should see him alongside Coady in Parkinson’s back three this season.

Wrexham target Chris Mepham set for West Bromwich Albion

It’s difficult to see Wrexham adding another defender in this window, even with Dan Scarr wanted in League One and Thomas O’Connor considering an exit.

Doyle and Coady join the likes of Lewis Brunt, Eoghan O’Connell, Scarr and O’Connor in the defensive ranks, and it may take an exit or two to unlock another signing.

Wrexham have looked at Chris Mepham, with the Welsh international down the pecking order at Bournemouth.

Mepham is now heading to the Championship, but he won’t be signing for Wrexham before the transfer deadline.

Fabrizio Romano reports that Mepham has now agreed terms to sign for West Bromwich Albion, with a medical imminent.

The 27-year-old spent last season on loan at Sunderland and played a vital role as the Black Cats reached the Championship play-off final.

It’s unclear whether the deal will be a loan or a permanent move, but Mepham is poised to rule out a move to Wrexham.

Wrexham stars will join Chris Mepham on international duty

Wrexham have placed a keen focus on signing Welsh players this summer, and Mepham would have added to the list.

The centre-back has racked up 48 caps for Wales since his debut in 2018 and could yet help fire Craig Bellamy’s side to the World Cup next summer.

Mepham won’t be joining the Wrexham rise, but he will join forces with a handful of Wrexham summer signings.

Danny Ward, Nathan Broadhead and Kieffer Moore will all feature for Wales alongside Mepham, with international action just around the corner.

Mepham would have been an impressive signing for Wrexham, but Parkinson will be pleased with his back three of Max Cleworth, Coady and Doyle moving forward and may just keep one eye on other defenders, in case Wrexham lose some players in the coming days.
