Wrexham have been active on deadline day, having completed a deal to sign Ben Sheaf from Championship rivals Coventry City.

Wrexham announced the signing of Ben Sheaf on Monday. The midfielder arrives in a £6.5million deal from Coventry City and becomes Phil Parkinson’s 11th signing of the summer so far.

And ahead of the 7pm transfer deadline on Monday, the Dragons look set to do yet more business, with Wrexham set to sign Issa Kabore on loan from Man City.

Elsewhere, it looks as though Parkinson wants to bring another defender to the Racecourse, with Wrexham trying and failing to sign Zak Vyner from Bristol City.

Wrexham confident of deadline day deal for Blackburn Rovers’ Dom Hyam

After having a third bid rejected for Vyner, Parkinson turned his attentions to Dom Hyam at Blackburn Rovers, Sheaf’s former Coventry City teammates, it was revealed that Wrexham are working on a late deal for Hyam on deadline day.

Now, journalist Nathan Salt has added to the subject. He’s revealed on X that ‘Wrexham targeted three arrivals at the start of the day’ and that there is ‘increasing confidence that a third bid for Hyam will get accepted’ before the summer transfer window slams shut.

Hyam, 29, has been with Blackburn Rovers since leaving Coventry City in 2022. The towering centre-back has racked up 210 total Championship appearances in his career, with 192 total appearances at Coventry and a further 135 with Blackburn Rovers.

How Wrexham’s defence could look if Dom Hyam and Issa Kabore sign

Parkinson has really bolstered his defence with the £8million signing of Callum Doyle from Man City. He and fellow summer signing Conor Coady look like two nailed-on starters for Wrexham now, with Liberato Cacace having settled in nicely at left-back.

Though should Hyam sign, it could push Max Cleworth down to the bench, or maybe even Coady if Parkinson views Hyam as the starting man in the middle of the back-three.

Likewise, Kabore could slot straight in on the right side of defence, at the expense of Ryan Longman who started on the right for Wrexham’s 2-0 win over Millwall in their last Championship outing.

If Kabore and Hyam arrive on deadline day, after the signing of Sheaf, it would be a great finish to a likewise summer for Wrexham.
