Wrexham now rivalling Premier League teams in race to sign ‘exceptional’ left-back this summer

Wrexham are looking to make their second signing of the summer transfer window, after recently completing a move for Ryan Hardie.

Ryan Hardie is Wrexham’s first summer signing, and likely the first of many as Phil Parkinson looks to ready his Dragons side for what promises to be an arduous first campaign in the Championship.

Wrexham haven’t played in the second tier of English football in more than 40 years. Needless to say, a lot has changed since then and the Championship boasts a lot of teams with a lot more capital than Wrexham, and currently, a lot more quality.

But Wrexham could yet surprise many next season, providing they can pull off some coups in the summer transfer window. There’s a long list of players linked with Wrexham this summer and there are some very exciting names on that list, too.

One such name is Owen Beck at Liverpool.

The latest on Wrexham transfer target Owen Beck

Wrexham are interested in signing Beck from Liverpool this summer. Whether that’s a loan deal or a permanent one remains to be seen, but Parkinson is keen on the 22-year-old left-back who now looks poised to leave Anfield this summer.

Liverpool are close to signing Milos Kerkez from Bournemouth in a rumoured £40million transfer. That’s expected to free up Beck to move on this summer and that’ll come as good news to those at the Racecourse. But what won’t come as such good news is the fact that there are Premier League and Scottish Premiership clubs now wanting to sign the Reds academy graduate.

Daily Mail write that ‘Liverpool have been inundated with queries regarding Beck’s availability’ and add that ‘there are multiple Premier League clubs, as well as teams in the Championship and in Scotland, keen to take him’ this summer, after his ‘exceptional’ loan spell at Blackburn Rovers last time round.

Who is set to sign for Wrexham after Ryan Hardie deal?

There’s a sense that another new signing is close. But who for, and in what position on the pitch remains a bit of a mystery.

Wrexham have a £25million transfer budget this summer but it looks like Parkinson is keen to really exploit the free and loan markets, as a deal for Beck suggests.

There have been rumours that Wrexham are pushing for a deal to sign Tom Lawrence on a free transfer after his Rangers exit, though nothing concrete. Earlier in June there had been reports that Danny Ward was in talks to sign for Wrexham but nothing has been said of that since.

The Dragons might well come out of nowhere to announce Ward one day this week. But right now it seems like purely irons in the fire where Wrexham’s transfer business is regarded.

A move for Beck though could really pick up when the Kerkez deal goes through at Anfield.
