The 2025 January transfer window is just around the corner and Wrexham are expected to be active.

The Red Dragons signed nine senior players in the 2024 summer transfer window before making a further two free-agent additions in October.

One of those free transfers, Matt James, is expected to be offered a new Wrexham contract after his superb start to life at the Racecourse Ground.

James has played less than a handful of games for the club so far but with his deal set to expire at the end of this month, fresh terms are expected to be agreed in the coming weeks.

Elsewhere, with Aston Villa seemingly planning a recall in the winter window, Wrexham have been urged to move for Louie Barry, who has tourmented the Welsh outfit in the last two seasons while on loan at Stockport County.

Barry would be a very welcome addition amid Phil Parkinson’s side’s struggle for goals up top.

Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds sent Wrexham transfer demand

Paul Mullin is struggling at Wrexham in 2024/25 so far, scoring just one League One goal following his return from injury.

Jack Marriott was in top form early in the campaign but has been sidelined for some time and is still yet to return.

In turn, the Red Dragons are currently lacking firepower up top, with the likes of centre-back Max Cleworth and Eliot Lee instead having to step up and provide the goals.

Now, ahead of January, EFL pundit Liam Grice, as per Football League World, has urged Wrexham to sign a new number nine next month.

He said: “I think, in terms of January, that’s really an area they need to address, so if they didn’t at least go in for a new striker [it would be disappointing].

“I know we spent money on Mo Faal, and we brought Bodvarsson in, he’s only on contract until January, so I think we do need to go in for a new striker.

“If we didn’t do that, I’d be slightly worried about our prospects come the end of the season.”

Wrexham January transfer plans

Owners Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds have already headed that advice with clear transfer plans starting to emerge ahead of January.

It emerged in mid-November that Wrexham do want to sign a striker in January and want to target someone with Championship experience.

Manager Parkinson was offered at least 12 centre-forwards following that news and we have since learned of a further insight into the club’s plans.

TWI revealed last week that McElhenney and Reynolds are eyeing new Wrexham relationships, which should help the club in their striker search.

The Hollywood duo are aiming to build relationships with Premier League sides amid plans to loan some stars this winter.

This should open up a world of possibilities for Wrexham and aid them massively in their promotion hunt.
