Phil Parkinson has suffered a transfer blow with one Wrexham target set to stay at his club.

Wrexham’s pursuit of new signings has continued, with Phil Parkinson hoping to add many new names to the Red Dragons’ squad.

It looks set that Wrexham will sign Ben Sheaf from Coventry City before the summer transfer window comes to a close, with Parkinson hoping to further bolster his midfield options.

Wrexham have also brought in Issa Kabore, a player who arrives on loan with plenty of potential, as well as rave reviews from Man City boss Pep Guardiola.

In addition to these two recruits, Wrexham had also sounded out one midfielder from a Championship rival, but they have been told that he is now unlikely to make the move to North Wales.

Wrexham handed Kenny McLean setback as Norwich City make decision

It has been revealed, via Pete O’Rourke on X, that Norwich City captain Kenny McLean is set to remain at the club beyond the close of the transfer window.

The Canaries have managed to keep their skipper in spite of interest from other clubs.

Wrexham were keen on Kenny McLean, while Rangers also showed interest in the central midfielder.

Despite the setback, it is expected that Phil Parkinson’s midfield options will still be bolstered by the arrival of Coventry City star Ben Sheaf before the transfer deadline arrives.

Phil Parkinson has done well to sound out plenty of midfield options

Whilst it can be regarded as a blow for Wrexham to lose out on the signing of Kenny McLean from fellow Championship side Norwich City, the Red Dragons have done brilliantly to have a plan B up their sleeve.

Wrexham are still going to have enough recruitment in the centre of the park, despite the setback, with Ben Sheaf arriving.

It would be very Wrexham-esque to look for yet another midfielder at this very late stage of the summer transfer window, as we know that Phil Parkinson loves to have plenty of options at his disposal.

But if they are only able to add Sheaf to the midfield mix today, Parkinson will still be content that they found him as an alternative option and were able to sanction a successful deal to bring him in.
