As Wrexham’s summer transfer window bursts into life, Phil Parkinson is about to miss out on one rumoured transfer target.

Wrexham have seriously upped the ante in the transfer market in the last week or so. After Wrexham’s defeat against Sydney in Australia, fans were calling for more new signings after what was a rather disappointing defeat, and Phil Parkinson heard those cries.

Whilst in New Zealand, Wrexham announced the signing of Liberato Cacace from Empoli, and upon the club’s return to Wales, George Thomason joined Wrexham on a three-year deal.

And Wrexham don’t look like they’re about to stop there. There are emerging reports that Josh Windass has undergone a medical with Wrexham, and that he too is about to sign a three-year deal at the racecourse.

But one player who has been linked with a move to Wales this summer is now about to join Middlesbrough.

Middlesbrough sign Wrexham transfer target Jayden Carbon

Earlier in the summer, Wrexham and fellow Championship rivals Leicester City were linked with a move for Oxford City’s young striker Jayden Carbon.

The 19-year-old forward has turned heads in the sixth-tier of English football, having scored six goals in 43 games for Oxford last time round. Though it is neither Leicester nor Wrexham who are set to sign the youngster, but Championship rivals Middlesbrough.

Journalist Pete O’Rourke revealed on X that Rob Edwards’ side were set to sign ‘non-league sensation’ Carbon. Soon after, Mike McGrath revealed that Middlesbrough have indeed completed a deal to sign the young forward.

What next for Wrexham in the summer transfer window?

In Cacace, Thomason, and Windass, Wrexham look to have pulled off a good few transfers in the last week, and they were three very much needed transfers, and they bolster each department of the outfield for Parkinson, whose side looked rather weak in games against Sydney and Wellington Phoenix during their pre-season tour.

But much more is needed if Wrexham are to stay in the Championship next season. What happens next, though, remains to be seen, but we could expect to see another midfielder arrive this summer if not next in the transfer window.

Earlier in the summer, reports revealed how Wrexham had agreed a £5m deal to sign Lewis O’Brien from Nottingham Forest, though that move seems to have gone cold for the time being, since Wrexham have been linked with Sivert Mannsverk at Ajax.

The Norwegian midfielder spent time on loan at Cardiff City in the second half of last season, and Cardiff fans sang their praises of Mannsverk, who could yet be signing number six for Wrexham.
