Ollie Palmer has now left Wrexham and his new manager has been commenting on the Red Dragons.

It was confirmed on Friday that Ollie Palmer has left Wrexham, seeing his contract terminated.

The striker has moved to Swindon Town, joining the League Two outfit on a two-year deal.

Ryan Reynolds and Rob Mac have sent messages to Palmer following his stint at the Racecourse Ground coming to an end.

Swindon boss Ian Holloway explained how he signed the Wrexham striker in pretty odd circumstances.

And he has now given his thoughts on co-owners Reynolds and Mac.

Ian Holloway on Ryan Reynolds and Rob Mac

Ahead of their first full season as owners, Rob and Ryan sacked Dean Keates and replaced him with Phil Parkinson.

Things did not get off to a great start for the former Sunderland manager in the National League, however.

Wrexham were struggling early on and Reynolds and Mac discussed sacking Parkinson in a Season 1 episode of Welcome to Wrexham titled ‘Sack the gaffer’.

Their form did improve in 2021/22, but they still failed to win promotion, losing out to Grimsby Town in the National League play-offs.

Now, Holloway has praised Rob and Ryan for sticking with Parkinson despite not going up that season.

He said, as per BBC Sounds: “Obviously I’ve been following what Wrexham do inside out because I think it’s quite remarkable how they didn’t sack their manager the first year when they didn’t do it, and they stayed with him and they kept going, and now they’ve got three promotions in a row, and Ollie’s been right the way through all of that.”

Will Wrexham sack Phil Parkinson in 2025

Wrexham have since won three promotions in a row under their current manager, but football fans are fickle.

The Dragons have had a slow start to the Championship season, failing to win any of their opening three fixtures.

In turn, some Wrexham fans are unhappy with their manager and how he has been setting the team up in the second tier.

While it’s been a tough opening to the campaign, however, talk of a dismissal is premature.

We provided an update on Wrexham’s stance on sacking Parkinson earlier this month, with transfer expert Graeme Bailey saying: “Phil Parkinson is a Wrexham legend, when he leaves the Racecourse he will be due a statue, no doubt about it. But the Parkinson era is not finished yet – am told the club as a whole are frustrated. Parkinson knows the pressure is on.

“Parkinson has turned the Wrexham job into one that would be the most desirable outside the Premier League, he has created the pressure himself and I am told he is embracing it. Wrexham as a club are fully behind him, they are focused on staying in the Championship this season – let’s get it right that was always their target this year.

“As it stands there is no talk about replacing Parkinson, if they continue to struggle then this might be a different conversation come Christmas but they have had a big turnover of players and are happy with the path they are on.”
