Wrexham’s Championship season kicked off on Saturday with a meeting against Will Still’s Southampton, and an ex-player has sent his former teammates a message.
Wrexham have made some big changes to their team this summer, most recently giving James McClean a new contract.
However, while their captain is sticking around for another year, a number of previously key players have moved on.
Paul Mullin has left Wrexham, joining Wigan Athletic on loan for the 2025/26 campaign.
Meanwhile, Ollie Palmer will leave in this window, and Elliot Lee could be moved on as well.
Earlier in the summer, Wrexham released eight players, one of whom has now sent a message to his ex-teammates.

Steven Fletcher message to Wrexham for Southampton fixture

However, Fletcher was released by Wrexham in May, with the attacker suggesting it was not his decision.

Wrexham play Southampton at St Mary’s in a 12:30pm kick-off, with a tough 90 minutes expected.
Prior to the fixture, Fletcher took to his Instagram story to pen a touching message.
Quoting a post the club put out about the Southampton tie, he wrote: “All the best today lads @wrexham-afc”.

Steven Fletcher comments on retirement after Wrexham exit
Now 37, Fletcher has had a prolific career at all levels of football in England and Scotland.
With the new campaign underway, the former Wrexham man has not signed for another club.
Free agents can move outside of the transfer window, but it looks as though he is ready to hang up his boots.
Fletcher commented on retiring recently, saying: “I’m going to go as far as to say I’ll give you an exclusive… I’m about 95 per cent sure that I’m done.
“I think so. There’s a wee five per cent of me just sitting there thinking ‘ehhh’. It would need to be something like, that gave me a wee bit of ‘ooh’ to get me to go back out.”
