Three Wrexham stars Phil Parkinson must now hand more first-team opportunities to

Several Wrexham stars need to be given more of a chance in the first-team by Phil Parkinson this season.

It has been a largely solid, if not somewhat mixed, start to the 2024/25 season for Wrexham.

The Red Dragons enjoyed an excellent start to the campaign and were sat top of League One at one stage.

However, Wrexham were beaten 3-1 by Birmingham City on September 16th and their form has dropped somewhat since.

The Welsh outfit narrowly beat Crawley Town 2-1 in their following league fixture but were far from their best.

This was followed by Wrexham drawing 0-0 with Leyton Orient and suffering a surprising 1-0 loss at the hands of Stevenage.

Phil Parkinson saw his side get back to winning ways prior to the October international break with a 4-1 win over Northampton Town but with a hectic schedule now on the horizon, it is the perfect time for the Wrexham manager to hand three players a run in the first-team.

Sebastian Revan

Wrexham signed Sebastian Revan from Premier League outfit Aston Villa during the 2024 summer transfer window.

Parkinson dubbed Revan ‘special’ after the full-back made an appearance in the EFL Trophy versus Salford City early in the season but he has largely struggled to nail down a starting berth.

The 21-year-old has made nine league appearances for Wrexham but has notched just 228 minutes of action in the competition.

With Ryan Barnett in top form, a clear pathway into the team is not currently there for Revan but as Wrexham now have five games in three weeks, Parkinson should look to rotate the latter in order to ensure Barnett does not suffer burnout so early in the campaign.

Ollie Rathbone

Another Wrexham summer addition struggling to break into the first team is Ollie Rathbone.

Parkinson hailed Rathbone as ‘outstanding’ when his side beat Peterborough United 2-0 in August.

But the midfielder has earned just 199 minutes of League One action so far in Wales.

However, with Andy Cannon one of the lowest-rated Wrexham players this season, Parkinson should now give Rathbone a run in midfield over the out-of-form Cannon.

Modou Faal

Modou Faal joined Wrexham from West Bromwich Albion over the summer for a club-record £590,000.

The striker is still yet to taste League One action for his new club but Faal was named Man of the Match for Wrexham vs Wolves’ U21s recently.

With Jack Marriott the only centre-forward currently in good form for Parkinson, now is the perfect time to hand the ex-West Brom man a run in the first team ahead of the likes of Steven Fletcher and Ollie Palmer.
