Wrexham are on course to complete their 10th signing of the summer transfer window with an £8 million deal to sign Man City’s Callum Doyle progressing.

Callum Doyle looks set to seal a permanent move away from Man City after spending the last four seasons out on loan in the Football League.

On Tuesday, reports revealed that Wrexham are set to sign Doyle in an £8million deal from Premier League giants Man City, and it comes just a week after Wrexham paid £10 million to sign Nathan Broadhead from Championship rivals Ipswich Town.

It takes the Dragons’ summer spending over the £25million threshold and for Phil Parkinson it’s certainly exciting times with his Wrexham squad starting to come together very nicely. The summer transfer window closes on September 1st and before then it looks like the Dragons will look to do some more business.

Specifically, Parkinson could turn his attentions to the loan market with Liverpool’s Lewis Koumas having been a target throughout the month.

Liverpool’s plan for Wrexham transfer target Lewis Koumas is revealed

Earlier in August, the likes of Birmingham City and Wrexham were linked with a move for Koumas. The Liverpool youngster looked set to leave the club on loan this summer, and at one point it was even claimed that Wrexham were in advanced talks to sign Koumas on loan from Liverpool. However, the link has died down in the last week or so, but the Reds remain keen on sending Koumas out on loan before the summer transfer window ends.

According to The Athletic, who also add that Wrexham’s Championship rivals Sheffield United, Hull City and Preston remain interested in Koumas, along with the Dragons. Once Doyle completes his move to the racecourse, it may well be that Parkinson turns his attention to Koumas, who could well become the club’s 11th signing of what has become a very impressive summer transfer window.

Wrexham have an unlikely advantage in the race to sign Lewis Koumas

Koumas is hot property right now. It looked nailed on that he leaves Anfield on loan before deadline day and it’s also looking likely that he’ll be heading to the Championship.

And whilst Wrexham have started poorly, and whilst Parkinson’s formation may not necessarily cater to the left-winger, Koumas has a connection to the local area.

Recent reports have revealed how Koumas’ family run a shop in Wrexham, not far from the Racecourse. His family runs the Everland Fish Bar on Market Street which is only a 15-minute walk from Wrexham’s home ground.

Whether the family connection is enough for Wrexham to pull off a deal for Koumas remains to be seen. But they’re clearly in the race and a strong contender it seems, with Josh Windass’ injury against West Brom perhaps giving Koumas more reason to move to Wrexham this summer.
