Phil Parkinson had tough decisions to make after Wrexham’s promotion from League One and made the difficult call to revamp his goalkeeping options.

Wrexham are busy retooling Phil Parkinson’s squad, with incoming business the name of the game right now.

Wrexham signed Liberato Cacace on Frida,y and Bolton Wanderers midfielder George Thomason has undergone a medical.

Josh Windass is also close to joining Wrexham, with Parkinson potentially completing a transfer bonanza.

This has all been set up after difficult summer decisions, including Steven Fletcher’s surprise release and Paul Mullin’s move to Wigan Athletic.

Wrexham had to refresh the squad after promotion, and Parkinson decided to make major changes in goal.

Liam Hall misses out on Rotherham United deal

Arthur Okonkwo will again head into the season as Wrexham’s first-choice stopper, but he has new competition.

Danny Ward has rejoined Wrexham this summer, completing a free transfer move back to his hometown club.

As Ward arrived, three goalkeepers were let go as Mark Howard, Liam Hall and Brad Foster were all released.

Parkinson is taking the stance of quality over quantity in his goalkeeping ranks this summer, and we have already seen Foster complete a move to Ross County.

Howard remains a free agent, and Hall recently went on trial with Rotherham United in an attempt to win a contract with the League One side.

Hall joined Wrexham from Bradford Park Avenue back in 2023, but spent his time down the pecking order and left without a first-team appearance.

The Millers took a close look at Hall with a view to adding him to their ranks, but the 20-year-old has missed out on a contract.

Matt Hamshaw on Liam Hall decision

Rotherham boss Matt Hamshaw is looking for somebody to come in and take the third-choice slot behind Cameron Dawson and Ted Cann.

Hall was eyed up for that role, but Hamshaw has now told the Rotherham Advertiser that the former Wrexham stopper has been moved on.

“We’ve parted company with Liam,” said Hamshaw. “He’s a good kid and we wish him well. The search goes on. We’re looking for a keeper with potential, somebody we can develop,” he added.

Hall will hope to find a club soon, with a couple of options potentially at his disposal.

The former Wrexham man could look to take on a role down the pecking order, just as he had at Wrexham and Rotherham, and learn in the background.

Alternatively, Hall could drop down the leagues, potentially back into non-league football, and attempt to play regular first-team football.

Hall will certainly look to secure a deal somewhere before the season starts and will hope to bounce back quickly from his Rotherham snub.
