Wrexham spent big over the summer to add quality depth to Phil Parkinson’s squad, but they missed out on some potentially huge deals.

Wrexham signed three players on transfer deadline day, taking their total arrival count for the summer up to 13.

£33m was spent by the Red Dragons, who smashed their transfer record several times.

Wrexham’s squad value has increased a great deal, and they are in much, much better shape than when they began the summer.

Despite what should be classed as a brilliant transfer window, there were a couple of big deals that never got over the line.

5 best players Wrexham missed out on in 2025 summer transfer window

Christian Eriksen

Wrexham’s transfer interest in Christian Eriksen emerged at the beginning of the summer window.

At the time, it seemed like a pretty insane rumour. The Dane was due to become a free agent after spending several years at Manchester United and would have, without question, been a great addition to Parkinson’s squad.

Eriksen’s agent confirmed Wrexham transfer interest at the beginning of August, but stated that the player wanted to play top-flight football.

At the time of writing, the experienced midfielder remains without a new club.

Ben Davies

We revealed in June that Wrexham spoke to Ben Davies about a potential transfer.

Like Eriksen, the Welsh international was due to become a free agent this summer.

However, Tottenham Hotspur extended Davies’ contract, keeping him around for another year.

The defender is yet to make an appearance for Spurs during the 2025/26 season.

Jordan James

After the additions of Lewis O’Brien and George Thomason, Wrexham wanted to add another midfielder to their ranks late in the window.

Jordan James became a target one year after leaving the Dragons’ rivals, Birmingham City.

However, it was confirmed on deadline day that James had joined Leicester City on loan.

Aaron Cresswell

Amid links to Davies, it became clear Parkinson wanted a new left-sided centre-back this summer.

Wrexham offered a contract to Aaron Cresswell but they were said to have ‘dithered’ over finalising a deal.

Instead, Cresswell signed for Stoke City, who sit third in the Championship after four matches.

Jamie Vardy

Early in the window, it was claimed that Wrexham were interested in signing Jamie Vardy on a free transfer.

The striker became a free agent after calling time on his historic Leicester stint.

It took some time for Vardy to find a new club, but he eventually signed for Serie A side Cremonese on deadline day.
