Wrexham have landed a new striker in Jon Dadi Bodvarsson – and he will have a very familiar face to lean on at the STōK Cae Ras.

Wrexham’s transfer business was supposedly done until January when Modou Faal arrived from West Bromwich Albion.

Eight signings arrived over the summer and Wrexham were done… or so we thought.

Free agent Josh Adam signed in September after leaving Manchester City and Phil Parkinson has now signed two more free agents.

George Evans suffered an injury at Stevenage, Jack Marriott is out injured for four months and Steven Fletcher picked up a problem before facing Huddersfield Town.

That left Wrexham to explore the market and come up with a couple of signings.

Midfielder Matty James and striker Jon Dadi Bodvarsson have both signed for Wrexham, penning deals until January.

Jon Dadi Bodvarsson reunites with George Evans at Wrexham

Bodvarsson’s move hands Wrexham an experienced and physical forward with Fletcher now on the sidelines.

The 32-year-old has bags of experience in English football having featured for Wolverhampton Wanderers, Reading, Millwall and Bolton Wanderers since 2016.

Bodvarsson has already praised Parkinson and will hope to earn an extended stay after penning a short-term deal.

Bodvarsson is waiting for his first appearance in a Wrexham shirt but he has at least joined a familiar face upon heading to North Wales.

Midfielder Evans – one of the injured players Wrexham are having to cope without – knows Bodvarsson very well.

The pair featured together at Reading, featuring 12 times together for the Royals in the 2017-18 season.

For those who believe in omens, Evans and Bodvarsson’s record at Reading together – two wins in 12 with seven defeats – may not bode well.

The pair linked up again at Millwall though, joining forces in London with much more success.

Evans and Bodvarsson played 17 times together for the Lions, bagging 10 victories and losing just four times.

Now back together for a third time, Bodvarsson will no doubt lean on Evans during his settling-in period at Wrexham.

That can be both on and off the field; helping him settle into the group at Wrexham, helping with places to live and just having great familiarity with a new teammate straight away can only help.

Will Bodvarsson and Evans play together?

The only problem is that Bodvarsson and Evans may actually miss out on playing together for Wrexham.

Evans ‘felt something crack’ against Stevenage and is expected to be out for a number of months.

Bodvarsson’s contract only runs until January, so there is a real chance that the striker has moved on by the time Evans returns.

Wrexham will hope that isn’t the case, either with Evans returning earlier than planned or Bodvarsson impressing enough to earn an extended stay.

These reunions have been a feature of Wrexham’s recruitment with George Dobson joining three former teammates after completing his summer move.

Dobson already knew Eoghan O’Connell, Elliot Lee and Ollie Palmer, immediately making his transition to Wrexham easier.

Wrexham will hope that Bodvarsson can settle in quickly with Evans’ help and ultimately hit the ground running when his chance arrives.
