Wrexham’s players have returned to the club this week as preparations for the new season begin.

Wrexham face Southampton in their Championship season opener and Phil Parkinson will be hoping for a successful pre-season tour down under.

New signing Ryan Hardie will be part of the tour and has the chance to bed into the Wrexham squad and form relationships with teammates.

Hardie and Sam Smith have big boots to fill after replacing club legends Paul Mullin and Ollie Palmer up top. It appears that one Wrexham player could also soon be back in Parkinson’s plans after a horrific injury.

Wrexham star Andy Cannon posts injury update

Andy Cannon suffered an ACL injury back in February during Wrexham’s 2-1 victory over Mansfield in League One.

Humphrey Ker bought Cannon a PlayStation 5 to keep him occupied during his injury recovery but the midfielder is now back at the Racecourse Ground ramping up his recovery.

Cannon has posted on his Instagram a picture of him on an exercise bike as he continues his recovery from knee surgery.

Wrexham are in talks with Stuart Armstrong and are prioritising strengthening central midfield this summer, this is a timely reminder from Cannon that he still wants to be part of the plans.

Andy Cannon can be part of Phil Parkinson’s Championship midfield

Cannon is one of few players with experience in the Championship in Wrexham’s squad and upon return from injury, he could become a valuable option in midfield.

The 29-year-old played in the second tier during his time with Hull City and his knack of scoring goals from deep is something that the Red Dragons lacked last season.

Wrexham are interested in Tom Lawrence and Charlie Savage as they try to plug that creative void but don’t write off Cannon.

Cannon praised Parkinson for his man-management skills back in March and the Wrexham boss will have to use all of his experience to navigate the club through their first Championship campaign since 1982 – Cannon will hope to play a part in that.
