Dream end to Wrexham transfer window as Ollie Palmer stays and summer spend reaches £36.6m

There are now just 12 days of the summer transfer window remaining, and Wrexham are still expecting plenty of activity before deadline day.

The Red Dragons got a lot of their transfer business done prior to the Championship season getting underway.

Further arrivals, including a club-record deal for Nathan Broadhead last week, have taken the new arrival count at the Racecourse Ground up to nine.

However, Wrexham have an inflated squad, which means a number of players still need to leave or be left out in the Championship from September 2 onwards.

But even with all the new arrivals and a team that is too big to be registered in the second tier, Phil Parkinson is still looking to make more transfers before the September 1 deadline.

So, with that in mind, here’s what a dream end to the transfer window may look like in Wales.

Wrexham transfer spend reaches £36.6m

With players already signed, Wrexham have spent £18.6m on new players, which is the second most in the Championship behind Norwich City at the time of writing.

However, that total could nearly double if the club get two more signings over the line before the deadline on September 1.

It was reported earlier this week that Wrexham were ‘closing in on a deal’ for Callum Doyle of Manchester City.

An £8m total fee for the defender was mooted, which would make him their second most expensive signing behind Broadhead.

Elsewhere, Wrexham were linked with a move for Lewis Koumas, and it was thought Liverpool were going to loan the youngster out.

However, it’s now being reported that Parkinson’s side and Birmingham City want a permanent deal for Koumas worth £10m.

Should both deals get over the line for the reported fees, it will take the Dragons’ spending up to £36.6m for the summer.

Ollie Palmer stays at Wrexham as players depart

Ollie Palmer has been facing an uncertain future in Wales since he was axed from the League One squad in late January 2025.

However, Wrexham fans want Palmer to regain his spot in the Championship after he came off the bench to net twice in the Carabao Cup versus Hull City last week.

Kieffer Moore is now Parkinson’s preferred ‘big man’ option, but after Steven Fletcher left, they don’t really have a like-for-like replacement in their team other than the 33-year-old.

While Palmer staying should please supporters, other players are expected to leave.

Parkinson has already said that Jacob Mendy could leave on loan this summer, and there are a few other names, such as George Evans and Jack Marriott, who seem unlikely to be included in the 25-man Championship squad and should therefore be moved on for the good of their careers.
