Wrexham have let a number of players leave the club this summer, one of whom has had a nightmare start to life with his new club.

Fresh off the back of their League One promotion, Wrexham released eight players on free transfers at the end of their contracts on June 30.

Mark Howard and Steven Fletcher were key for the Red Dragons in 2024/25 and two of the most high-profile names to depart.

Elsewhere, a number of young players and some squad players were also released.

Sam Dalby was among the stars to leave on frees, with Wrexham confirming the striker had previously turned down a new contract in January.

Since becoming a free agent, Dalby has signed for Bolton Wanderers following interest from the likes of Wigan Athletic and Dundee United.

Sam Dalby suffers injury blow following Wrexham exit

Bolton, who competed in League One alongside Wrexham in 2024/25, remain in the third tier of English football.

Ahead of the new campaign getting underway, the Wanderers have jetted off to Spain for their pre-season.

However, Dalby is now not expected to play any part in their upcoming friendlies, with it reported by the Bolton News that the centre-forward could now be out of action until the proper season gets underway.

The 25-year-old has suffered a hamstring injury and manager Steven Schumacher has shared an update.

He said: “Then Sam Dalby got injured two days before we flew out here and he has a hamstring injury as well. He will be out for a little while too.

“It’s not the best. In pre-season you want everyone to be available because it sets you up for what is a really challenging season, you need to be as fit as you possibly can.

“There are ways now that we can get the lads up to speed but what is important, especially for those two, is that they are not rushed back.

“That’s what happens if you do rush them and it becomes a necessity, they break down, so we have to make sure that the rehab programme is spot on and they don’t have a reoccurrence during the season.”

Every player to leave Wrexham

As well as Dalby and the aforementioned released players, several more names have been sold or loaned out already this summer.

Paul Mullin made his first Wigan Athletic appearance over the weekend after his loan deal was confirmed.

Wigan’s manager has dropped a Mullin transfer hint already, with a potential permanent transfer on the cards.
